The vehicle's car hire insurance is subject to an insurance excess value : When you collect the car hire at Reykjavik Airport, you'll be asked to leave a credit card deposit to the value of the car hire excess : (Depending on the type of car you select) between ISK 80000.00 and ISK 150000.00. Providing you return the vehicle undamaged at the end of the car hire, this value is returned to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car hire vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the car hire insurance excess value. Local car hire taxes & airport charges.
Our car hire rates at Reykjavik Airport are fully inclusive of local sales taxes (24.50% in Iceland).
Arrival times for your car hire.
Our car hire rates include service on arrival at Reykjavik Airport within normal office hours (08:00-20:00). If your flight arrives outside these times, there is a surcharge of ISK 0.00. This car hire surcharge is payable locally on arrival at Reykjavik Airport.

Fuel is not included at Reykjavik Airport!
The fuel that you consume during your car hire is obviously not included in our our published car hire rates! On arrival at the Reykjavik Airport car hire station, you will collect the car hire vehicle with a full tank of fuel against a credit card deposit. At the end of the car hire, return the car hire vehicle with a full tank to Reykjavik Airport to get a refund.
Insurance Excess deposit.
As explained above in What's Included, the car hire vehicle's insurance at Reykjavik Airport is subject to an car hire insurance excess deposit (depending on the type of car hire vehicle you select) between ISK 80000.00 and ISK 150000.00. Providing you return the car hire vehicle undamaged, this value is refunded to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car hire vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the deposit paid.

Lost car hire vehicle keys.
Vehicle keys are chip-coded and are costly and timely items to replace. If you lose the car hire vehicle's key, you will be obliged to pay for its replacement (approximately ISK 100.00) plus any associated transport costs in connecting you with a new vehicle key. More importantly, your holiday car hire at Reykjavik Airport may be seriously affected while you wait for a new key to be prepared for your car hire vehicle. Please take good care of the car hire vehicle key while you're on holiday in Iceland!
Off-road or negligent use.
Our car hire vehicles at Reykjavik Airport are rented for use on the public highways of Iceland. They cannot be used off-road. Although a very rare ocurrance, we'd like you to be aware that damage to the underside of the car hire vehicle, frequently caused by negligent driving or off-road use at Reykjavik Airport (we have had occasion to have to lift car hire vehicles out of dried-up river beds!) is your responsibility. Drunk driving a hire car is considered negligent use.
Traffic fines.
Traffic fines, speeding tickets incurred at the wheel of your car hire vehicle at Reykjavik Airport are at your own risk.
Vehicle glass & locks.
It is a sad reality that in most holiday resorts in Iceland, auto-theft is a day-to-day ocurrance. If you park up the car hire vehicle with personal items inside and, as a consequence, the glass or locks are damaged in an attempt to steal your personal effects, you will be responsible for the associated repair costs to the car hire vehicle. We strongly recommend that you park the vehicle in supervised car parks/garages in the major cities and never leave any personal item inside the car hire vehicle.

Baby Seats
Baby seats are suitable for new-born babies until approximately 6 months of age. Baby seats are normally available on car hire vehicles from Reykjavik Airport on request. There is a charge of ISK 3000.00 per rental for these seats which is payable on arrival at Reykjavik Airport. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.
Child seats
Child seats are suitable for young children from approximately 6 months of age until 2-3 years of age. Child seats are supplied for car hire vehicles from Reykjavik Airport on request. There is a charge of ISK 3000.00 per rental for these seats which is payable on arrival at Reykjavik Airport. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.
Booster Seats
Booster seats are suitable for young children from approximately 2 years until 5 years of age. Booster seats are supplied for car hire vehicles from Reykjavik Airport on request. There is a charge of ISK 1500.00 per rental for these seats which is payable on arrival at Reykjavik Airport. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car hire.
Additional Drivers
You may add additional drivers to your car hire on arrival in Reykjavik Airport. These are payable locally at Reykjavik Airport at ISK 1500.00 per rental.
Buy-out of the Vehicle's Insurance Excess
The car hire vehicles at Reykjavik Airport are sold with an insurance excess. This is explained in the section Whats's Not Included? above.Instead of leaving a credit card deposit to cover your car hire insurance excess at Reykjavik Airport, you may opt to purchase additional insurance locally to "buy-out" the excess value - effectively removing your liability for vehicle bodywork damage. This option, depending on the car hire vehicle selected, costs between ISK 0.00 and ISK 0.00 per per day. You do not need to prebook insurance excess buy-out, simply decide and pay locally on arrival at the car hire station in Reykjavik Airport when you arrive in Iceland.
Purchasing insurance excess buy-out is not a "licence to kill" and you will still be responsible for items like tyre, wheel, glasss or damage to the underside of the car hire vehicle. The car hire company may still require you to leave a credit card imprint to cover extensions to your car hire contract or traffic fines. See our section What's Not Included for further details.
